Free Speech & The Platform NZ: On Venue Cancellations, Pride Week & Our Roadshow
IT'S ALL GO! Let Kids Be Kids has been thrust into the public eye on multiple fronts this week. All while we're on tour around the North Island!
Free speech and public venues
Recently, our Marlborough regional team tried to book a meeting in a council library room, and was denied. The Free Speech Union jumped straight on it and they are meeting with Marlborough Council this afternoon… (please note, the legal action is by FSU, not LKBK).
Stay updated with these developments on FSU’s social media channels, email list and website. Here is their latest on this situation: Letter to Marlborough District Council: Alleged breach of Bill of Rights Act by Marlborough District Libraries.
On The Platform with Sean Plunket: Cancelled speaking events and Pride week
Hot on the heels of the venue cancellation situation, Let Kids Be Kids Founder Penny Marie was invited onto The Platform yesterday morning. The timing also coincided with the start of schools’ Pride Week.
(The YouTube below is only the first 8 minutes. The full 20 min conversation is here.)
We recently developed a simple resource for parents who are concerned about:
The lack of transparency from schools about topics that require transparency
Pride Week (by InsideOut)
Out On The Shelves book campaign (also by InsideOut).

North Island Roadshow
Come along and bring friends and family. Hire a babysitter and bring your partner. It’s a must-see event.
Feedback from our roadshow has been phenomenal (and makes us cry sometimes). Here's a taste...
“Really informative. Shining a light on what is happening with our kids at present. Let Kids Be Kids is sharing info about what is being taught in schools, where schools are not communicating with parents... So much great research, and links to where we can find it ourselves”. - Roadshow attendee - Facebook review
We’ve enjoyed great meetings in Pukekohe, Ponsonby, Whangarei and Kerikeri this week. Tonight (Tuesday 18th June) we are in Mangawhai, Wednesday 19th in Silverdale and Thursday 20th in Warkworth.

It’s hard to get our message out there
Free speech shut down is REAL and happening to us right now. Considering the flurry of activity related to the activities mentioned above, we have had 2 visible new follows on X this week. 2. Apart from ‘sex bots’ - which when they hook onto our account, turn down our algorithms. We must be over a pretty big target!
Despite thousands seeing and responding to our posts and other posts where we are tagged. This demonstrates a clear silencing of free speech. Mainstream media stays away, apart from the single Stuff article in Nelson where they tried to fabricate an issue with having us book a public space.
We need your help. Please share, comment, post about our content and events, send invitations to your friends, get talking about the issues families are currently facing. Now is not a time to be timid, or afraid of being called names.
The battle for our children’s innocence and wellbeing is real, and parents are being kept in the dark.
