Our South Island Roadshow Is Shaking & Stirring Things Up!
While we've been on the road, lots of things have been shaken up! We've had a mention on Stuff, NZFirst and Katrina Biggs' blogs, as well as held 13 meetings...
Today we kick off the final week of our epic South Island Roadshow. What started as an invitation to speak in Blenheim grew to 13 locations once the word was out. Over 1,700km in 3 weeks (much of it still evolving while we were literally on the road).
This update is coming to you from Invercargill. Each town we have visited feels like home, and the connections have been incredible. We can report that there are MANY onto it, loving, generous and gracious people, and it is an honour and privilege to spend time with so many of you.
You’re not alone if you are struggling with getting transparency from your school leaders, community board members and other elected authorities. Something insidious is definitely in place, not only within our education system, but much wider. Our roadshow unpacks some of this, with the goal of empowering attendees with knowledge.
Identity Disruption
Elisabeth Cave has been a wonderful addition to our roadshow, and she explains how our children’s identities are being disrupted by current education and wellbeing systems in our schools. Follow her Facebook group here. We’ll be sharing more from her soon!
Katrina Biggs penned this after attending our Christchurch meeting…
NZ First, RSE and their Coalition promises
MP Jamie Arbuckle attended our Blenheim meeting, and we are now in touch with a number of NZFirst MPs and others within the party. Some NZ First MPs are currently touring the country as well, and Jamie, along with Andy Foster was recently in Napier. In the video below, they field questions about RSE and puberty blockers. Jamie mentioned LKBK and asks for input and feedback.
Stuff inadvertently promotes Let Kids Be Kids
Bless Nelson Mail (Stuff), they tried their best to discredit us. Days after our Nelson meeting a Stuff reporter, contacted us claiming there had been complaints about our meeting. So we asked her who complained. (Because it didn’t appear that anyone who attended the meeting had any issues).
The name we got was Nelson’s Deputy Mayor Rohan O’Neill-Stevens. Rohan was not in attendance at our meeting. A quick look and we see he’s a member of the Green party. Their Youth arm. Say no more.
We emailed Rohan, asking him if he’d like to contact us directly to air his grievances. We only received a reply today (well after Stuff published their piece). He said replying to us wasn’t a priority. Funny, as it seemed a priority to him to contact Stuff about us. This is part of his reply:
“As a community leader, I have seen first-hand the devastating impacts of homophobia and transphobia on our city and its residents, particularly our rangatahi. Across your publications you’ve published messages that go against scientific consensus, that spread half-baked conspiracy theories which hold no journalistic merit, and that reflect and promote attitudes and rhetoric that cause direct harm to treasured members of our community.” - Rohan O’Neill Stevens, Deputy Mayor of Nelson
Nelson Mail were left focussing on venue hire for groups such as ours. This brings an important issue to light. If you care about having public places we can meet face to face in your town, take note of what being expressed in Nelson.
It seems members of the left (Green/Labour parties) are well represented in local governance and ministries. Are you aware of the NZ Green Party education policies, and the Labour party petition to keep RSE as it is, in schools? They appear to be far greater in numbers than those with a more conservative take (and by-the-way, by ‘conservative’ we do not mean homophobic. That is real misinformation, and it needs to be addressed. But don’t count on mainstream media to change their tune.
Political Writer Damien Grant admits his ‘cowardice’
Today, Stuff published a great opinion piece by Damien Grant about ‘gender care for youth’. (It comes with a big disclaimer from Stuff however!)… this is worth a read. He owns up to his own cowardice of not tackling the issue of gender care.
Coming up: Invercargill, Te Anau, Arrowtown & Wanaka
We have four meetings this week - please share this email to people you know in these areas, and let them know they are invited. Our event schedule is here.
A North Island Roadshow is being arranged - please contact us if you would like to help us arrange a meeting in your town.
Petition for an Independent Inquiry into gender-affirming healthcare
An independent inquiry is urgently needed into gender-affirming care. Di Landy from Mana Wahine Korero is leading the charge on this petition and needs our support. The data is out, both in the WPATH Files and the Cass Report. New Zealand’s decision makers must be held to account to:
Investigate the ‘Affirm’ model of healthcare.
Stop puberty blocker use for children and youth experiencing gender distress.
Stop trans surgeries for gender-confused children and youth.
We’d love your help to keep going
Let Kids Be Kids relies on your help - no govt funding here! Thank you for those who have generously supported us and continue to do so!
