Thank you so much on your hard work on this. I really thought the tide was turning - it’s devastating to see companies pushing ideology into schools like this. My kid has just started a school that uses school docs and the school asks parents to review and comment on the docs - though I wonder what the point is if they can be centrally reissued like this with no clear version control/tracking. I will have to take a look and see if that particular policy has been updated.
Edit: Can confirm, this has been updated in our school policy too - with the same link to the Human Rights website.
Similarly, but not related to schools, last year the TVNZ programme Queer Aotearoa: We've Always Been Here -series 1-episode 6 stated that "the 1993 Human Rights Act, … outlawed discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.” This is, as you say, untrue. However, in this TV programme, which would be watched by many young lesbians and gay men, they not only added 'gender identity' into the law, supposedly, but they also removed Sex. The law actually says 'sex' and 'sexual orientation' but does not include gender identity.
SEX is the very word left out of the reinterpretation of the law. But of course Sex was being discussed because “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual”, at least, requires sex to be part of the meaning of these words. Without Sex there is no sense to what Homosexual, lesbian, bisexual or heterosexual means. This was being dodged in a TV programme, supposedly, about the history of Gay Liberation. This is an example of 'transing the gay away'.
Plus, when I complained to the Broadcasting Standards Authority about this, their response said "The government has considered that the ground of ‘sex’ includes people who are transgender " and "This is consistent with the explanation given by the Human Rights Commission of the relevant legislation". Since 1993 we, LAVA, Lesbian Action for Visibility in Aotearoa, have been trying to get the HRC to change their fluctuating interpretations of the law. We did not think that the law should include the phrase "sexual orientation" because it is too vague. We did not know that reinterpretation of, and then omitting, the word Sex would be an issue.
The media is reinforcing the Human Rights Commission - it is a significant part of the political strategy, normalising what they want us to say/think/do/not react to. To be honest, I don't see how any of this lunacy will be stopped as long as almost every political party support the concept that a person's sex can legally be changed, as evidenced by them all supporting the Births, Deaths, Marriages, and Relationships Registration Act 2021, which allows anyone to legally change their sex on their birth certificate simply by self-identification. It's hard to understand how such blatant idiocy has managed to get into the heads of our supposedly intelligent national leadership.
Yes, that is from Big Brother, too! Change your birth certificate, but leave no trace of the original. Alter the records as if it has always been so = erasing the truth, controlling the past. Very orwellian!
I've just read 1984 by George Orwell, and these goings on: i.e rewriting policy without admitting to changing what went before, is straight out of Big Brother's playbook. "Who controls the past controls the future." We are truly in an Orwellian nightmare. These people are evil and dangerous - they must be unmasked and stripped of power! But how?
Agree. Not quite sure how but exposing them is a step in the right direction. There are many who do… our voices need to be shared and amplified. Common sense and truth will flush out the madness. One day!
That's exactly what is happening. And they know that they hold all the $$ and power cards. They don't have truth though. We (the people) have that. And genuine concern for people and children.
I raised these issues with SchoolDocs as far back as 2021 when I was on a school board. They were dismissive then but I did manage to get our school's wording changed. Then, a couple of years later, there was an automatic update and our custom (legally correct) wording disappeared and was replaced by the incorrect standard SchoolDocs version. SchoolDocs did not notify us of the change. School boards have a regular rolling schedule of policies to review and it doesn't seem to be linked to changes to the SchoolDocs.

Spot on Penny. The HRC and the Law Society are operating Ultra Vires as long as sec21 in the Act has not been changed.
They are infiltrated activists bending interpretation and adding subtle statements as if it's actually law.
