What's Going On With Our Kids - A Continuing Conversation

Penny shows two examples from NZ school RSE lessons, and Elisabeth explains what's happened to our education system over the decades

Earlier this week NZ Rising hosted Penny Marie and Elisabeth Cave on a live Zoom call, open to the public. In this video we:

  • Unpack more about what's going on in some New Zealand school's Relationship and Sexuality (RSE) classes with examples, and

  • Look at education from a wider lens - including the changes since the 1960's. What is the driving force behind what is happening in schools today? And are teachers aware?

If you find this information helpful...

Please share with friends and family, especially those who currently work in education, or who have spent their careers in education.

We urge you to look into what is being taught at your children's schools

All schools are tackling RSE in their own way… you will need to ask on behalf of your family, if you have concerns.

However, don’t rely on the government or education system to have your child’s best interests as their priority. YOU are the ones who must put your children first

And don’t simply rely on our information and analyses. Please, spend time asking your school leaders for information, and analysing their responses and information.

If school staff are not forthcoming about what is being taught to your child in ‘Relationship and Sexuality Education’ this is a BIG RED FLAG. You have the right and authority to see exactly what is being taught. Reclaim your role as parent.

Parents, ex educators, and everyone who is looking at this topic

  • We need more voices, more evidence and more explanations about the situation we find ourselves in.

  • If you have information to share, or would like us to help you share it, please get in touch with us.

  • If you have evidence from your local school on what’s being taught in RSE - we’d love to see it.

  • If you have stories of your successes with your school on discussing your concerns, and positive outcomes, we’d love to hear those stories too.

These are all stories that help others, when shared.
